ELECTRICAL PROJECT MANAGER WITH FEDERAL DIVISION LEAD POTENTIAL

ELECTRICAL PROJECT MANAGER WITH FEDERAL DIVISION LEAD POTENTIAL

We need an electrical project manager with an active DOD TS clearance, great project management skills, solid technical electrical construction acumen, team building skills and strong relationship building skills. We are a top tier electrical constructor that has more than fifty years of federal presence but has failed to emphasize and expand upon that market. The person we seek will be resourced to build a practice with work centered on the federal, and in particular the DOD space.

This opportunity is quite a bit different than the standard PM “job”. We are one of the top electrical contractor/constructors in the country and we have a blemish free reputation for quality, schedule integrity and overall business integrity. We can bond anything, we can deal with all the vendors and we pay everybody, we utilize the best tools, hardware and software, we pay and bonus our staff in a generous fashion, and we have exceptional morale and employee retention: this is a first class organization. What makes this a genuine CAREER position is our plan to invest and build this practice under the leadership of a qualified person.

We are seeking that person with the spark it takes to build relationships in the federal space, find the work, manage that work under control and continue to roll those efforts forward. If you are a strong rainmaker and can rapidly mine opportunities, we will support your staffing efforts and bring all the resources to bear required to support growth under control. There will be a point where the federal projects, now an occasional enterprise, have flow and volume that define a division, and that title and empowerment will come accordingly.

The company has a number of electricians, estimators, managers and executives with clearances to allow this work to be estimated and processed. We have a FSO with TS and presidential tickets in place. What we are looking for is a person dedicated to the federal space exclusively who has the full time mission of finding, running and building the federal practice for the company.

Our name, history, past projects list, and impeccable financials will make the task of promoting and qualifying the company exceptionally easy. Our card itself has meaning. Our problem is that we simply have not chased. There has been a great deal of low hanging fruit in the commercial, industrial, institutional and transit systems world that we have captured, and we are very busy and have a big backlog. A great business plan has purposeful diversity, regardless of the load and backlog though. Each space, whether the commercial world, industrial world, public works, or institutional space, has a different economic clock and different prosperity cycles. A great company needs to have a credible and flexible footprint in each space to provide financial strength in all economic climates, and the commitment to this federal program addresses that concept directly.

A UNIQUE COMPANY: We are a large constructor with annual sales in excess of $150 million. We have been profitable continuously for well more than a half-century, operating with cash reserves and unlimited bonding. We have electrical construction capabilities from high voltage distribution through systems integration for communications, A/V and security. We have a very diverse client base including heavy federal work, local government, state government and the full spectrum of commercial and industrial constructions including specialties like traffic and transit on the public works side. We enjoy an unusually stable work force because of quality working conditions, strong management, and consideration for our staff. We have formalized training programs. We employ very tight controls for estimating and project management, including a full quantitative reporting system for electrical construction, and field financial project support for larger projects. The company is designed around growth, and is strategically positioned to do it moving forward. While our heavy marketing focus targets Virginia and Maryland, we are a regional Mid-Atlantic presence. We have several regional physical locations. We have put emphasis on quality working conditions and our office spaces are the finest you will experience in this business. Steady planned growth allows for career movement for managers.

Refined for nearly 70 years, we are a business under control and a business that makes money. We have staffed and designed our groups around the needs of the areas and clientele we serve and have upgraded and directed our technical and business acumen to suit the evolving needs of this region.

CULTURE: We are a business that has always planned for growth. Our decision for formalize a federal practice is an example of adding specific business units that assure the expansion and stability of our business. We are always looking for people who build their own followings by providing service excellence and “no headaches” interface for their clients. We have dynamic and inspired leadership, and employ some of the strongest managers in the business with histories working successfully for top constructors across the country. Quality field reporting allows your accomplishments to be seen more quickly and clearly. Our senior managers are working hard here and in all honesty, the working norm is more fifty hours than forty, but we are considerate of personal time and family. For high performance people, this is a place that you can stay, grow a personal business unit and be secure. We have sustained the performance environment for more than fifty years and clients expect and respect that.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: While this job takes place in the federal space, the duties and responsibilities are fairly typical for an electrical project manager. Given that we are looking for a person to ultimately build lead and direct federal business operations and eventually carry the title commensurate with all of that, we are looking for a PM that can do all of that. Assembling proposals, reviewing estimates, building well conceived schedules of values with consideration for cash position, planning, critical path scheduling, coordination with field management, buy out assist, review of paperwork from contracts to invoices, subcontractor management (RFP, bid assessment, management, billing review and approval), RFI creation and follow-up, cost accrual, forecasting, technical support, client interface, meetings controls, communications (verbal, written, project logs), coordination with other trades, assessment and estimation of change orders and change of scope, pursuit of acknowledgement and signatures for change orders / change of scope, billing support, coordination with field accounting, project progress physical assessment and audit are all parts of this job. These are all the elements involved in quality project management and the maintenance of business control. Being precise and timely with all paperwork is necessary and anyone who has worked in the Federal space knows if it is not just so, you simply will never get paid. That is bad.

A qualified candidate will be able to look at and understand the construction sequence, the critical path schedule, being able to harmonize and understand the schedules of the other trades, and learn how to work with a federal client, making headaches disappear. The successful person on this job will have authority and diplomacy in perfect balance.

UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS: We need a rainmaker’s personality. While some of this work is defined and in the public domain and can be picked up and bid, the really juicy stuff evolves from relationships forged while doing the work. There is that “make it easy” to do business personality that wins friends and influences people and that is where we are headed here. The more adept you are at expanding your relationships, the faster this project manager’s position becomes a division manager’s position.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Base salary of $95 – 120,000.00. Significant profit based bonus program. Our senior managers are earning $120 – 200K in equivalent positions. We offer quality health and insurance benefits, 401K with match. Car allowance (plenty), gas card, cell phone computer equipment, travel and entertainment expenses are provided.

CAREER PATH: We would like to build a defined division around this person. We are going to do that.
