Certified Industrial Hygienist

Directs the site Industrial Hygiene program. Develops policies, procedures and sampling protocols required to ensure worker safety and quantify chemical exposures and risks. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards. Performs required sampling and analysis and reviews exposure risks with management and affected employees. Protects employees by eliminating the hazards, ensuring adequate ventilation, revising work procedures, implementing training programs and requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Using MSDS and manufacturer data, reviews chemicals prior to purchase to determine if materials can be used safely in Northrop Grumman operations. Investigates accidents and maintains records in accordance with regulatory requirements, works with shop personnel to develop corrective action necessary to prevent recurrences of unsafe acts or conditions. Collects data in support of workers' compensation investigations. Participate in OSHA inspections. Some travel and off-shift/weekend work may be required.
