Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer

In the Alabama Army National Guard, the Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer is a Soldier who installs, operates, and performs unit-level maintenance on cable and wire communications systems, communication security devices, and associated equipment. He/she also operates and performs preventive maintenance checks and services on assigned vehicles and power generators.

Advanced communications systems are integral to the Guard’s ability to complete our important missions. For this reason, the Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer is a highly valued member of the Guard team, ensuring that all components of these vital systems are properly installed and maintained.

The Alabama Army National Guard is an elite group of Citizen-Soldiers who dedicate a portion of their time to serving their nation. Guard members train part-time to be ready full-time, should their state or nation call them to serve.

Major Duties:

Installs, operates, and performs unit-level maintenance on cable and wire systems, to include Digital Group Multiplexers, Remote Multiplexing Combiners, repeaters, restorers, voltage protection devices, telephones, test stations, intermediate distribution frames, and related equipmentConfigures digital group multiplexers and remote multiplexing combiners for operationsInstalls, operates, performs strapping, restrapping, preventive maintenance checks and services and unit level maintenance on communication security devicesPerforms tests on cable communications systems to ensure circuit and system qualityTests circuits/groups to detect and locate line faultsOperates manual and motorized cable construction equipmentRecognizes electronic countermeasures and applies appropriate electronic counter-countermeasures as necessary
