San Jose, CACOMPANY BRIEF:Our client is a leading manufacturer of residential water softeners. The company network extends to every continent and has a consistent track-record of continual growth. The products are of superior quality and the work environment is excellent. As a result of continued growth and expansion, our client has decided to invest into additional branch locations in various parts of the country and world. The specific project we are entrusted with is to find a General Manager for a new operation in San Jose, CA.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position offers an unusual amount of growth potential. It is, in essence, a ground floor opportunity with the backing of a time-tested expansion model and the necessary financial backing to ensure success.
The area already has an existing client base and a skeleton crew of sales, service and administrative personnel will be provided at the outset.
One of the first tasks of the new GM will be to hire additional team members. Their individual and specific training will be provided by experts from the company HQ and other well-established areas.
After the team is assembled, the GM will be responsible for increasing revenue generation with less of a focus on profit margins but a big focus on incremental sales growth. Upon reaching a critical mass, in about one year, the focus will then gradually shift more toward running a profitable operation.
Once this level has been reached, the GM will initiate and spearhead the expansion of the operations to other localities in Northern CA.
A final phase, after approximately 3 years, will be to then allocate resources to further sales in both industrial and commercial markets. The company is very successful in these markets elsewhere.
In general, we are offering someone the opportunity to use the resources, experience and reputation of a very successful company and duplicate this success in the Northern CA region. Though the beginnings may be somewhat humble, within 5 years, the GM can find him / her-self managing multiple facilities in various markets and having sales responsibility well in excess of $10M.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Total starting compensation will be about $90-110K with exceptional benefits and significant growth potential based on achievement of objectives and sales growth.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful GM must absolutely be a charismatic leader. The business will fall or prosper based on the GM’s leadership skills. We need someone who knows the true meaning of ‘hands-on’. An ‘office’ or ‘administrative’ type GM will not fit into this environment. The position will initially require the GM to do whatever it takes to get things done. This can include duties which are not usually associated with GM duties. As the organization grows, this needed flexibility will be less important.
A second, absolutely essential, aspect is that the GM must have some type of in-home sales experience. Obviously having sold residential water softeners would fit well but other similar areas such as home window sales, home alarm system sales, residential insurance sales, pest control service sales and any other similar in-home sales with a company where a service aspect (field technicians, installers etc.) were part of the business model.
A third, and also important, area of qualification is experience and ability to manage a budget and the typical financial aspects of a branch location. The GM need not be a financial guru but rather someone who has had enough practical experience in running the financial aspects of a branch facility.This is the perfect position for someone who is driven to follow the general guidelines of a proven methodology and apply those practices and principles effectively to create an ‘empire’ in the Northern CA marketplace.
