Covance Study Technicians perform an important role in bringing the miracles of medicine to market sooner. Covance offers a great environment in which to build your career - while making a difference in the lives of millions.As a Study Technician at Covance, you will perform and document techniques used in preparing materials for capsule, gavage, dietary and injection studies in support of Mammalian Toxicology in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines.Additional opportunities for growth and learning:
Reviews study protocol for test material formulation procedures and ensures that study tasks are conducted according to protocol specifications, SOPs and other procedures/regulations.
Responsible for independent creation of study notebooks, delivery schedules, and establishment of sampling, shipment and disposition schedules in accordance with study protocol.
Learns to prepare vehicle and test material mix procedures. Independently prepares laboratory reagents and vehicles.
Ability to independently perform two types of material preparation: dietary, gavage, capsule or injectable.
Serves as head technician for a study.
Performs protocol review in preparation for and attends meetings.
Independently able to use and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as appropriate for assigned tasks.
Collects and records applicable hand and computer generated data in accordance with GLPs, SOPs, and Policies and Procedures.
Performs formulation verification and delivery for prepared test materials.
Independently responds to QA audits and prepares eNotes with minimal guidance.
Demonstrates safe handling of known and unknown test materials.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment and complies with departmental safety procedures.
Recognizes deviations from normal results and takes appropriate action, including informing head technician or supervisor.
Plans assigned workload on a daily basis and effectively schedules and manages multiple assignments.
Reviews data and identifies potential problems. Independently performs laboratory QC.
Performs general laboratory support functions such as supply inventory, shipping procedures, administration of computer systems or data maintenance.
Trains and instructs less experienced lab staff.
Assists in test material accessioning.
Writes SOPs.

Qualifications
B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or Science field, or High School diploma/equivalent and 18 months appropriate laboratory experience. College level courses may substitute for one year experience.Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
Proficiency with the metric system and ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Proficient with standard spreadsheet and word-processing software applications.
Overtime, weekend and holiday work as required. Not all overtime can be scheduled in advance.
