As a senior contracts negotiator for Intuitive Surgical, Inc. based in Sunnyvale, CA, you will negotiate, draft, review and close sales and service contracts for our high-tech medical devices sold to surgical centers and hospitals. Intuitive Surgical is the global technology leader in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and is proud to be fulfilling its mission to extend the benefits of MIS to the broadest possible range of patients, while providing extraordinary value. With our continuing growth, there is opportunity for you to join a team with innovative products in a niche market helping patients return to active and productive lives. Because we are unique and setting the standards in this market, you can make an immediate impact and help drive our revenue.
Surgical robotics was little more than a medical curiosity until 1999, the year Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISRG) introduced the da Vinci® Surgical System. We have been serving customers globally providing technology and procedural innovation across cardiac, urology, gynecologic, pediatric and general surgical disciplines. In June 2000, Intuitive Surgical conducted a successful initial public offering. In 2003, the company acquired its principal competitor Computer Motion, strengthening its intellectual property holdings and ensuring its position as the world’s sole provider of robotic-assisted surgical systems. Today, nearly 400 da Vinci Systems are installed in hospitals worldwide and we currently have rights to roughly 250 U.S. and foreign patents, as well as patents pending. In 2005, our revenue grew to $227 million, up 64% compared to $139 million in 2004. Recurring revenue increased 71% to $103 million from $60 million in 2004, accounting for 45% of total revenue for the year. The da Vinci Prostatectomy procedure is currently the fastest-growing treatment for prostate cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men.
