SENIOR SCIENTIST - TECHNICAL OPERATIONS

Leiner Health Products is America’s largest store brand manufacturer of vitamins, minerals, supplements (VMS) and diet aids and leading producer of store brand over the counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals. We are headquartered in Carson, California with state-of-the-art manufacturing and packaging facilities in Wilson, North Carolina, Fort Mill, South Carolina, Garden Grove, California, Valencia, California, and a subsidiary in Canada. We are looking for an exceptional Senior Scientist in our Technical Operations Department, located at the Garden Grove, California facility, reporting to the Director of Technical Operations.

Scope of Supervision
Technicians, Technical Associate

Overview
Develop new or improve existing solid dosage (OTC and vitamins) manufacturing products and processes to produce highest quality products in cost efficient manner.

Position Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering studies, Value Engineer Products, conduct and monitor scale ups. Submit samples for stability from scale-ups, analyze data and write reports, evaluate and approve Raw Materials. Develop products and process controls to increase quality and efficiency in manufacturing. Provide hands-on expertise to ensure reliable and reproducible quality content in all products and processes.
- Generate and or approve Raw Material Specifications, Master Formulas, and Bulk Specifications, Process Validation, Protocols and Specifications. Assist in technology development and transfer of technology to production.
- Provide Shop Floor support. Resolve all quality issues of finished products through regular interaction with Q.C./Q.A. Investigate IR issues and take corrective action to prevent recurrence. Develop rework or reprocessing instructions as required. Develop SOP’s and training as needed. Implement and follow up company policies and safety issues. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Requires Ph.D in Chemistry, pharmacy or allied sciences with at least one year experience or M.S. in same areas with at least three years experience, or B.S. in same areas with at least seven years experience.

Experience
Experience must be in a technical area of responsibility (e.g. Quality Control and Research and Development in pharmaceutical manufacturing.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, statistical process control, documentation, and thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of instruments, GLPs, and methods development.

Other
Traveling may be required 20% of the time.
