Quantitative Geneticist
GenVis Labs is a biotechnology company involved in the discovery and marketing of agriculturally-important genetic markers. The company is currently licensed to market several bovine-related beef quality, parentage, and sample tracking tests in North and South America (SuteTRAK®, GeneSTAR®, and SireTRACE™).
The role of quantitative geneticist is to provide basic research support to ongoing research projects. This includes QTL analysis, gene marker validation, and genetic evaluation.
Applicant will be expected to have a minimum of a Master of Science degree in genetics or statistics, with a strong background in quantitative genetics relating to agriculture. Experience with BLUP evaluation and QTL analysis is a must. Applicant should be proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and statistics software. Teamwork skills and flexibility are of key importance, and the ability to work well in both a small group, and on one’s own, will be critical.
In addition to the above qualifications, applicants will be favored if they possess experience with techniques used in genetics laboratories, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry, DNA sequencing, etc.
