Production Associate
POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for executing a wide variety of Genomics related research laboratory tasks and experiments. Performs PCR, EXTEND, Mass Dispensing etc. laboratory research thru operating automated and manual production and research equipment, implementing technical procedures, making detailed observations, analyzing data, interpreting results and maintaining records according to prescribed standards. Provides routine and standard technical laboratory support for companies Genomics research programs, projects and activities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for performing a wide variety of routine to semi-complex research, development and/or production laboratory tasks and experiments according to prescribed standards. May utilize automated or manual laboratory or production equipment to accomplish the below tasks. Initial set-up of experiments, transfer of solution onto plates, cycling, quality control, testing, and storage and splitting of solution plates. Matching up cocktails to plates, extending cocktails, converting experiment plates onto disks, and entering data of experiment steps into LIMS or research tracking database. Transferring of solutions off of plates into CHIPS, dispensing CHIPS, identifying each CHIP into computer, documenting what CHIPS read & identification of problems into database. Genotyping of protocols including PCR, post PCR, processing, and dispensing of MALDI-TOF. Sets up, adjusts and operates production and laboratory equipment and instrumentation, such as microscopes, pipe-petters, cyclers, SME, HME, PinTol, Bunker/MALDI, spectrophotometer, and other equipment as required. Conducts laboratory analysis, complies statistical data and maintains standard research documentation records for Genomics research programs, projects and activities. Ensures the production/laboratory environment is maintained to comply with established SOP's, safe operating practices and regulatory requirements. Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments and inventory levels and performs limited troubleshooting and calibration of equipment and instruments. Makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results. Writes experiment/test summaries, protocols, maintain necessary records and may enter collected data into research database. Collects data for research and experimental purposes following established research procedures. Seeks out ways to improve the process and optimizes laboratory and/or production programs, processes and procedures. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, and detailed instructions on new assignments. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
BA or BS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology in similar field or equivalent AND 0 to 3 years previous lab experience (Strong lab tech background and experience required for PA II positions).Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or outstanding performance for AA with demonstrated capabilities, and a minimum of 2 to 5 years directly related experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Highly organized, motivated and detail oriented team player with good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to operate production laboratory equipment to proficiently move between different machines and complete experiments regardless of stage in production cycle. Ability to enter data into and extract information out of computer programs, whether commercial programs as Excel, LIMS or proprietary companies programs or equipment. Ability to perform very repetitive work, while maintaining a strong team environment is required. Good work ethic and ability to be trained on new tasks and equipment is required. Ability to work on assignments that are routine in nature and follow established protocols and procedures with minimum instruction. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel & Word), and sufficient computer skills; to establish file hierarchies, determine experiment save locations and retrieve information from databases. Ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Must have the ability to accurately document work, complete assigned tasks on time and notify supervisor of problems and issues for resolution. Must have ability to grasps all concepts, understand and perform all the essential functions and responsibilities of the position. Scientific background in Molecular Biology or Genetics or related laboratory skills preferred.
