Description:
The candidate will lead a San Francisco team focused on the design and implementation process of Nucleic Acid Chemistry experiments. It is expected that the candidate will have experience in the development and qualification for physico-chemical characterization (HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, SEC-HPLC, and CE) and maintain a broad knowledge of state of the art technologies and therapeutic delivery systems. Expertise in the areas of formulation of lipophilic drugs and sterile injectable production processes are desired. In this role you will develop and manage programs to select proper indication and to test novel siRNA based drugs in clinically relevant animal models.

Additionally, you will analyze data, interpret results, draw conclusions and design ongoing experiments based on sound scientific reasoning, and assure that all studies are completed according to GLP standards. Planning for and monitoring departmental budgets and staffing needs in accordance with project needs and priorities are also requisite. Candidate will play a significant role in managing projects and overseeing a group of scientists within the Drug Delivery, Organic and Analytical Chemistry Division.
Job Requirements Job Requirements:
Qualified candidates will have earned a PhD degree in a related field and possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industries. A strong background in Organic Chemistry and Physical-Organic Chemistry is desired. Candidates should have prior experience in the successful planning, management, and execution of pre-clinical drug development projects; this person should also have extensive knowledge of all related pre-clinical processes as well as all the regulatory requirements.

Prior experience working with CROs, individual contractors, and research partner groups (academic or industry) in the joint development of products is also necessary. Extensive knowledge of preclinical drug development process and drug formulation. Strong analytical skills combined with sound business and scientific judgment. Ability to establish project priorities, manages professional staff, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision, and work in team environment. Willingness and ability to take on related tasks at all levels of detail as required.

The candidate should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Preference will be given to candidates with formulation development experience in lipophilic drug as well as nucleic acid chemistry. This position requires 20%-25% travel.Company Overview
