Customer Contracts Analyst

The Contracts Analyst reviews and provides recommendations to complex contracting proposals and payment methodologies as submitted by field sales representatives. Includes conferring with various departments (Finance, Legal, Managed Markets, Regulatory, Trade) to ensure conformity to Corporate contracting strategies and requirements, including special pricing allowances, and legal language, terms and conditions. Involves detecting ambiguities, omissions of essential terms, inaccurate statements, and potential conflicts with Corporate guidelines.

Obtains, synthesizes, aggregates and analyzes relevant primary account and secondary market data as well as data from various in-house databases in order to analyze and apply payment methodologies as related to contractual obligations. Creates and maintains multiple databases to compliment data available in current ERP, Data Warehouse, and Chargeback systems (CARSIS). Performs validation and testing of data models to ensure data integrity.

Major accountabilities:

*Directly involved in implementing discount and reimbursement agreements with external customers.

*Speaks directly with external customers to review and resolve contract issues. Provides responsive and positive representation for UCB with the customer during the contract negotiation process.

*Prepares analyses for management based on proposed contract discounts. Reviews and requests justification for proposed discount arrangements. Escalates unresolved issues to Customer Contracts Department Head for resolution.

*Performs analysis of existing contracts and contract offers to determine the proposal is in line with company policy.

*Provides guidance within organizational guidelines concerning acceptable changes in terms and conditions of commercial contracts.

*Administers contract reimbursement system (CARSIS) in order to ensure timely fulfillment of contract obligations.

*Tracks progress of contracts during negotiation process. Provides periodic reports to all parties concerning current status of contracts. Communicates the necessity for contract extensions to Commercial Contracts Manager as appropriate.

*Performs modifications on contract documents and maintains record of changes made on all contracts.

*Abstracts terms and conditions of contracts and communicates to Contract Administrator upon completion.

*Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience

*Four year degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required, preferably marketing or finance.

*Previous Managed Care, Trade or Purchasing experience preferred.

*SAP and CARS IS experience helpful.

Specific skills

*Ability to read, understand, and generate detailed contract language.

*Experience and understanding of commercial contracts in the pharmaceutical industry.

*Ability to travel. May be required to travel 10 to 25% of time to work with field sales groups and Customers.

*Experience with contract language and the business impact of terms and conditions changes within contracts.

*Ability to analyze the rationality of requested discounting arrangements based on potential profitability and business impact.

*Expertise in effectively influencing others to meet deadlines.

*Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply business principles in the decision making process.

*Ability to create spreadsheets for variability reporting and profitability analysis.

*Familiarity with personal computers. Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint.

*Must have strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisor.

*Must be willing to actively participate in work team activities and training initiatives.

*Ability to maintain adequate level of performance and motivation despite job tasks that are constantly changing and re-prioritizing.
