Student Loan Advisor

Heald College is a nonprofit career college whose mission is to provide focused programs in business, technology and healthcare that prepare students for success in the workplace in the shortest practical time. Established in 1863, the school serves 11 campuses in California, Oregon, and Hawaii.

We currently have an opening for a Full-Time Student Loan Advisor at our Salinas campus.

The Student Loan Advisor is responsible for advising new and existing students of their rights and responsibilities regarding repayment of any Title IV FFELP debt they have incurred. It is the Student Loan Advisor's responsibility to help reduce the student's confusion and/or any frustration they might have related to the loan process through effective communication and explanation to the student.

In accordance with the Default Management program at the campus level, the Student Loan Advisor must maintain a Cohort Default Rate with acceptable KRA standards of 12% or less. The Student Loan Advisor must also work in conjunction with CAO in coordinating the loan status information that is received from servicers and California Student Aid Commission. Additionally, he/she must monitor each student during the first two (2) years of repayment and assist students in navigating the loan repayment process to ensure that their loans remain in good standing.

The Student Loan Advisor must perform the following:
• Conduct Entrance Interviews with every first time borrower.
• Conduct Exit Interviews with each student who is withdrawing/graduating and has a Title IV loan balance.
• Conduct additional loan advising with each student who requests additional funds.
• Track and communicate with borrowers during their grace period. Ensure that Heald has current demographic information, as well as, provide borrowers with information regarding their monthly payments.
• Track and communicate with delinquent borrowers, advising of ways to resolve delinquency.
• Assist with the resolution of issues/problems borrowers are having with their lender/servicer.
• Create and maintain records for the Cohort Year, including, but not limited to: number and identification of borrowers in the Cohort Year;number and identification of monthly delinquencies; and number and identification of monthly defaults.
• Interface with lenders, servicers and CSAC.
• Monitor, update and report errors in student loan database (SLIM).
• Communicate to the Dean and Director any campus quality issues discovered.
• Return of Funds Calculation when required.

REQUIREMENTS
The minimum qualifications needed to effectively fulfill the function include:
• The Student Loan Advisor preferably has prior experience in an advisory capacity as well as accounts receivable experience.
• The Student Loan Advisor must have an Associate of Arts degree. A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field is preferred.
• Must have effective verbal and writing communication skills.
