LAN Administrator I

The LAN Administrator acts as the District Office primary point of contact for technology issues and provides support in a broad range of areas to include desktop help for end users, hardware and software deployment, technology asset management, computer operations, network administration, training, policy and technology administration.Essential Functions:
Desktop Support- Acts as the Tier 1 support for district users. Troubleshoots basic hardware/software problems. Responds to end user questions and problems. Builds a cooperative relationship with district users. Fosters a productive microcomputer environment by explaining procedures and corporate standards. If initial troubleshooting is exhausted, ensures timely and accurate communication with the TSSC and tracks problem through resolution, keeping the district users adequately informed of the progress of the matter and its resolution. Works cooperatively with LAN Administrators from other districts to improve knowledge of desktop issues.Hardware and Software Deployment- Participates in the installation, modification, and repair of microcomputer hardware and other network peripherals. Sets up workstations for new employees. Supports the installation and modification of software programs. Coordinates office moves with vendors and NASD Property Management. Performs Desktop Configuration Administration and where applicable, installs the NASD corporate image on desktop machines. Verifies success of hardware/software installations.Technology Asset Management- Supports asset management in the district office to include maintenance of an inventory of equipment, parts and supplies, tagging new equipment and recording asset tag numbers and administering the disposal of technology assets according to NASD policies. Evaluates requirements for desktop equipment and forecasts needs. Provides budget input.Computer Operations and Network Administration- Manages the tapes and monitors the process for server backups. Assists and participates with scheduled and emergency maintenance windows. Services printers and other network peripherals. When required, acts as liaison between users and repair service vendors. Where applicable, maintains the District Server Room. Performs local data share management (folder permissions, file access, etc.). Performs account management for NASD custom applications. Supports network performance monitoring. Monitors server disk space usage.Training- Orients new employees to the NASD Corporate Desktop and proprietary software. Assists in training requiring computer and other electronic equipment setup. Coordinates training on the deployment of new electronic systems, databases and other NASD proprietary software.Technology Policy and Administration- Completes purchase orders for technology products as required. Acts as technical liaison between technology vendors and the users. Communicates NASD technology policies. Participates in NASD Technology information-sharing forums and communicates any events or issues that could impact the district office to district office management.Other Responsibilities:
Depending of the circumstances of the District Office, additional duties can be assigned for support of phone systems, audio/visual equipment, security systems or other technical systems.Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or work experience and formal training equivalent to a four-year degree with a minimum of nine credit hours in Information Systems or Computer Science. A minimum of one year of experience providing technical support in an office environment. Knowledge of common desktop applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to follow direction accurately.Working Conditions:
Work is normally performed in an office environment. Some evening and weekend hours will be required to support maintenance windows. Occasional travel may be required. This position has been designated as essential for the purposes of Business Continuity Planning.
