AZ-Mortgage Underwriter

The Underwriting Department will be responsible for credit and property analysis of 1st and 2nd lien mortgage loans. An Underwriter must have strong knowledge of product and agency guidelines, as well as a strong knowledge of risk factors and their relation to loan performance. This role will involve extensive oral and written communication with internal and external customers.

Essential Job Functions
• Underwrite non conforming 1st and 2nd mortgage loans in accordance with company and agency guidelines
• Provide internal and external customers with product and underwriting assistance
• Use creative analytical skills to determine acceptable ways to approve mortgage loans, while ensuring compliance with state, federal and company regulations and guidelines.
• Provide detail oriented oral and written communication to Brokers, Correspondents and internal customers
• Work closely with Quality Control Department and Due Diligence teams, responding to loan audits.
• Provide feedback to management on suggested guideline changes and/or enhancements
• Maintain company service levels to provide appropriate turn times
• Provide product and underwriting training to new or existing Underwriters, Account Executives, Brokers or Correspondents and Sales and Operations teams.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 3 years experience underwriting 1st and 2nd lien mortgage loans for non conforming product
•Strong knowledge of agency guidelines and risk factors
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Must be detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
•Excellent customer service skills
•Proficient with automated underwriting systems, as well as Excel and Word
•Ability to relate and work well with others
