VP Consolidations & Internal Financial Reporting

We have an immediate opening for a Vice President of Consolidations & Internal Financial Reporting to be a part of our Consolidations & Internal Financial Reporting Accounting team within our Accounting & Finance Department. This position will be based at our Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

Responsibilities:
•Oversees the preparation of and communicates the monthly and quarterly financial reporting calendars
•Ensures that the accounting treatment for all investment and equity accounts is performed appropriately and that these accounts are reviewed and reconciled in a timely manner
•Identifies and performs variance analyses of the consolidated financials to support senior and executive management
•Supervises the Financial Reporting staff and prepares the monthly global consolidated financial statements and related consolidating disclosure schedules needed for internal and external reporting and disclosures in a timely and accurate manner
•Responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the PeopleSoft General Ledger, Hyperion Essbase reporting and Sharepoint document management systems
•Responsible for maintaining and reconciling activity in Company’s subsidiary investment accounts and related monthly elimination entries
•Responsible for overseeing the accuracy and appropriate reporting for all intercompany accounts
•Responsible for maintaining the integrity and timely reporting of the Company’s Discontinued Operations
•Responsible for maintaining entity and facility structure within PeopleSoft general ledger system
•Ensures compliance with policies related to the opening and closing of facilities and/or entities
•Regular interaction and consultation with local site finance teams concerning general ledger, consolidation accounting and reporting matters (to ensure financial statements submitted to Corporate Finance comply with US GAAP requirements and HealthSouth FRP’s and procedures)
•Responsible for the maintenance of the Corporate consolidation system
•Prepare various footnote disclosures including Other Comprehensive Income, Segment Reporting and Earning per Share to be included in the Company’s SEC filings
•Assists SVP - Accounting in preparing quarterly balance sheet and P&L reviews for presentation to executive management and external auditors

•Supports VP-Financial Reporting in the preparation of initial drafts of finance-related sections of external financial reports and filings with the SEC and updates of financial information/presentations posted to HealthSouth’s web site. Assists VP-Financial Reporting in researching accounting issues
•Assists with the development and implementation of HealthSouth’s FRP’s and related procedures, internal controls, and new systems and educate/train local site finance teams
•Assists with preparation of consolidated tax provision and related schedules
•Assists the SVP - Accounting with other special analysis as required
•Proactively identifies and implements improvements to the Financial Close and Reporting Process as well as to the Investment Accounting and Reporting Process and a focus on Best Practices and Best-in-Class financial accounting

REQUIREMENTS
•BA/BS Degree in Accounting
•Master’s in Accounting or MBA a plus
•CPA certification required
•Minimum of 10 years experience in public accounting working on public company clients, or 12 years of experience in financial reporting positions at publicly traded companies. Must have strong working knowledge of financial reporting and disclosure requirements applicable to publicly traded companies
•Experience developing and overseeing varied, broad and complex financial reporting and consolidation systems to provide information and the execution of appropriate analyses, particularly in a healthcare management setting
•Experience in Best Practices and Best-in-Class financial/accounting organizations and operating principles
•Strong communications skills with the ability to manage and work cooperatively with a diverse group of peers and subordinates.
•Excellent understanding of large computerized accounting systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Hyperion); experience designing and implementing consolidation systems in a large, complex, multi-location organization
•The ability to multi-task in a fast paced accounting environment and perform functions such as the creation and maintenance of complex spreadsheets, account analysis and reconciliation.
•This individual must be highly detail oriented and skilled with a PC and various software packages including Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Access.
