Financial Control Analyst

The Financial Controls Analyst plays an important role in Safeco’s Sox Program Office. Safeco is a large and complex organization with many processes & controls. This individual will help provide support, advice and oversight to company departments in the area of internal controls over financial reporting. As “Section 404” activities touch many different functions and organizations across the Company, this position provides a good opportunity to learn the Safeco organization and help many other departments.

This individual brings a direct benefit to the Sox Program Office (SPO) by fulfilling the following:Communicate Sox information (regulations, compliance, contacts, status) to Safeco via:
Email,Meetings,Web,Presentations,Periodic reporting
Provide training to Business Control Owners, Contacts, and Testers on SOX 404 responsibilities, terms, risks and controls, testing strategies, procedures, and the tool
Facilitate sessions for the business units on 404 related work
Assist in the development of SOX compliance tools, learning aides, presentations, etc.
Provide content for the 404 website and ensure that the website is current and relevant
Serve as an expert on SOX and use this expertise to help others determine correct approaches
Monitor and manage documentation and control assessments
Complete other projects as assigned
Candidates should have a four year college degree in a business discipline or a college degree in another discipline supplemented by additional coursework in business, accounting, and controls.
Prior experience with financial reporting or internal auditing for a medium to large organization strongly desired. Public accounting experience is a plus. Must have internal control concepts, both the COSO framework and practical applications. Have an understanding of background and requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in general, and Section 404 in particular. Becomes familiar with the PCAOB pronouncements and publications. Candidates must pursue tasks with energy and drive. The ability to address potential obstacles and works well with a high degree of independence. Must be skilled at organizing various activities and prioritizing tasks. Prior experience with establishing and maintaining effective relationships with department management and diverse internal clients. Ability to communicate effectively with people from different departments and at varying levels of the company. Excellent analytical abilities to understand issues, develop and recommend solutions when needed. Prior experience in facilitating, training, and presenting information to various audiences. Candidates should also possess advanced skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
