Accountant II – GrantsDEPARTMENT:FinanceREPORTS TO:ControllerDEFINITION / PURPOSE:
DEFINITION:Grant Accounting: Monitors funded projects to ensure compliance with funding source regulations and supports the successful achievement of the stated goals and objectives of the Grant and the Finance Department. Provides support to project directors in managing financial resources within the guidelines of the grant,
Duties & Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Controller, assist in performing the accounting functions of the Finance department as they relate to Grants accounting such as: preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, ensuring all entries are entered in a timely manner to meet all closing schedules, maintaining appropriate schedules, tracking cash, timely billing, maintaining accurate, current data on all grants, liaison with project managers concerning grant accountability as it pertains to accounting. Preparing and filing all Grant required reports accurately, in a timely manner, Also assists in the accounting department where and as needed,ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of task is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Must be knowledgeable of the rules and regulations guiding Grants Accounting, This includes but is not limited to government and auditing regulations and standards, budgetary control and reporting requirements.
•Working knowledge of the elements of Grant Accounting; i.e. Budget and Control, Award and Project Status, Encumbrances, Funding and Installments, Project Revenue , Expenditures and Transaction Controls and Recipient Accountability.
•Assist in the financial activities of the government including payroll, per capita, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and assists in preparing financial reports.
•Specifics of job content will vary from preparing journal entries, checking supporting entries, carrying out well-defined steps in cost accounting analysis.
•Work is well defined with review in progress as well as at completion for accuracy and soundness.
•Applies accounting techniques and standard practices to the classification and recording of financial transactions
•Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies and or procedures in manner easily understood by the customer.
•Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
•Must be a team player.
•Grant Funded Position.
REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:•Knowledge of Grants Accounting
•Knowledge of GAAP, GASB.
•Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
•Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/ or accounting applications
•Knowledge of bookkeeping or basic accounting methods.
•Knowledge payment processing and/or receipt processing procedures.•Skill in using personal computer for financial transaction.
•Skill in mathematical computations used in accounting.
•Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation; vendors, other interested parties and the public.
•Must have Microsoft office skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor degree with 2 years progressive experience in Grant accounting/ finance or 5 years of progressive experience in Grant accounting/ finance.POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full-TimeOPEN DATE:
